Why Recycle?

95% of the contents of the average dustbin could be recycled in some way, but we still deposit the majority of waste in holes in the ground - landfill sites. It is estimated that in 15 years the south east of England will have run out of space for waste disposal. Land is too expensive to be wasted in this way, and there are serious environmental problems associated with landfill practice. Alternative disposal methods such as incineration and dumping at sea also damage the environment.

It makes sense to recycle. it makes sense to learn the reason why, and how to do it, at school. Young people care, often passionately, about the environment. The information in this pack will enable them to discover how easy it is to act positively and reduce the rubbish mountain.
